Forrest Gump





























Here's one I did for someone - the beloved movie character Forrest Gump. It's one that I had help with, as Tom Hanks has appeared on the Simpsons and I was good with what they did for that appearance, so I somewhat worked from that.


Also today I wanted to share some cool work from Cliff, who has put together some Doctor Who stuff in the form of a "Giant Robot K1" to go along with my 4th Doctor, as well as his renditions of Jo Grant! Nice!

The Shadow Knows!

From the "wow, why haven't I drawn that character yet" file comes a cool vintage character with a cool, spooky look - The Shadow. 

The Shadow is my favorite of those old Pulp heroes, though I guess that's no surprise given that I'm also a big Batman fan and the Shadow was an influence in the creation of Batman.

Where I live, there's a station that plays old radio shows every night, and The Shadow is frequently featured. Even if I'm busy and can't concentrate on the show, it's just cool to have it on because of the mysterious atmosphere it creates in the room.

I even enjoyed the 1994 Alec Baldwin movie for what it was. I understand The Shadow is busy in his own new comic right now too. Maybe we'll see him again on the big screen sometime soon?

Space Ghost!

Last week I was checking out a bit of the Batman: The Brave and The Bold cartoon, and caught the awesome episode where Batman has a short adventure with Space Ghost in the prologue. They did a fantastic job on the voices and animation on that one, and it struck me that "Wait, why haven't I done Space Ghost for the blog?" - So in light of that, here he is!

Something different today, fulfilling a request that I thought would be an interesting challenge - It's Spike Lee's creation, Mars Blackmon - who was hawking Nike shoes in the 80s and 90s with Michael Jordan. I guess he originally appeared in a movie I haven't seen called "She's Gotta Have It".

In other stuff, our friend Ximo has sent in what he calls "Teenage Mutant Marvel Turtles", featuring weapon-appropriate Punx twists on the turtles as Elektra, Gambit, Blade and Daredevil. Click to embiggen.

Spider-Men

Ultimate Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Scarlet Spider

I haven't read the Ultimate Spider-Man comic lately - featuring an alternate universe where the new Spidey is Miles Morales, a young man who has taken up the slack for the late Peter Parker - but from everything I hear about the comic right now, he's a good Spider-Man. 

Also here is the new Scarlet Spider! Both of these guys have pretty cool suits which are great takes on the Spidey costume.

Rocky!

I've only seen a couple of the Rocky movies, but I get the appeal - Ol' Sly is pretty inspirational in those flicks. That newer one was one of the ones I saw, and I quite enjoyed it.

...And for some fan stuff today, Cliff has put together his Punx versions of Doctor Who's Davros, Mickey, etc. Nice!

Hansel has also sent something in, his Punx remix brings us Batman; Arkham City Nightwing, and the Red Hood

  

Lastly... and I'm not great at talking about these kind of things... but I felt I should say something about the terrible events last week in Aurora, Colorado. Many of us have lost loved ones, but few of us have lost loved ones in a manner like this. My sincerest condolences and prayers go out for those affected by this tragedy.

Christian Bale was in Aurora yesterday to visit with those affected. He was not representing Warner Brothers, but decided to just go on his own and talk with some of the people there... and as admirable as that may be, even more kudos go out to the emergency responders and medical personnel who acted quickly and stayed awake for long, stressful hours to help those in distress. Thank you for being real-life heroes.

The Dark Knight Rises movie is very close now, I can't wait! They're saying Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman steals the show in all her scenes. It's not long 'till we see for ourselves...

...Now you'll have to excuse me, I have to go to bed and hide under my covers for the next few days so as to avoid any spoilers...
