The Dark Knight Begins

I thought "Batman Begins" was great. Like many critics said - they got Batman right. Leaving behind the neon campiness, Batman now had an epic and engaging story commited to the silver screen.

At the end of "Batman Begins," they gave us an exciting glimpse of what we could expect for the next movie - which would go on to be "The Dark Knight" featuring the Joker. My questions about Heath Ledger taking on the Joker seem to have been answered, he looks to have put in an amazing performance. It's a shame he's not around to see how much people are buzzing about what he's done here.

I'm also excited by the way Christopher Nolan has been approaching these movies and the fact that he's not relying much on CGI. I hope he sticks around for a third one.

Anyway, these Punx were fun to put together, Batman art is some of my favorite stuff to do.

Master Chief Is On Duty

Yeah, the name Master Chief - I never really got it, it seems kinda... redundant. On the other hand, what do I know? I've kinda watched people play Halo, but I've never actually played it myself.

This was a fun little addition to my Punx though. I thought I'd try something different, stretch myself a little, try something others might like.

On that note - if you feel like leaving a comment, go for it. It'd be cool to hear from you. Maybe you have a suggestion for a character you'd like to see. I can't promise anything, but if the idea works for me, I could give it a shot.

Darko? What's That, Like A Superhero Name?

Donnie Darko was one of those movies that stuck with me the very first time, but I wasn't sure why. I wasn't exactly clear on what happened, but I had a theory or two. I knew that somehow Donnie had done something important.

I like it when movies reward you for thinking. Only after a lot of thought and some re-watching do I now have an idea of what was going on - at least I'm pretty sure.

A couple of other things about it make it really memorable - The music was amazing, especially that haunting version of "Mad World". And who could forget Frank the Bunny? "Why are you wearing that stupid 'man' suit?"

Man, that Pee Wee's Big Adventure movie was insane! Paul Reubens is such a bizarre guy, but he is fun to watch. Just thinking about it, I can still hear him scream "WHERE'S MY BICYCLE!?" as that maddening theme runs - BOM BOM BOM BOM De De De De DA DA DA DA De De De De DA DA DA DA...

The kids show was something else too. I enjoyed annoying my parents as I'd "scream real loud" when hearing the secret word. I especially liked his demonstration of how to make "Ice Cream Soup." Look it up if you can!

Pedro Offers You His Protection

You either loved it or hated it. You either "got it" or you didn't. Napoleon Dynamite. The movie that caught lightning in a bottle. I saw those "Vote for Pedro" shirts for sale everywhere for a while, and I heard it quoted constantly for months.

Before long though, I think everybody (including myself) got a bit fatigued from the whole thing. I mean, I haven't thrown out my DVD or anything, I just don't want to hear about "ligers" and "tater tots" every five minutes. You understand.

That's not to say I think the movie will completely fade off into obscurity though. I could easily see people looking back on it in 15 or 20 years as it's generation's "Ferris Bueller" or something. Better keep that merchandise in good condition, kids!

Turtle Power! Springfield style

Ah, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The bizarre kids show concept that actually worked. Man, how catchy was that cartoon theme?! I had so much fun dancing around to that song, kicking the air and swinging my broomhandle bo staff.

They even had a pretty cool villain - although in the original comics, The Shredder died in the very first issue.

With all the new incarnations - cartoons, movies, comic books, the Turtles never seem to go away for long, and that's fine by me!
