Welcome back, my cheeky little monkeys!

Craig Ferguson

Craig Ferguson makes The Late Late Show a joy to watch. His monologue is basically a new stand-up routine every night. Craig is such a natural. He flirts with the audience. He addresses them like an old friend. Compare his show to some of the others - his audience isn't clapping after a joke, they're actually laughing.

He's quickly becoming a real force in late night too, apparently earlier this year he beat Conan in the ratings for the first time.

Occasionally he'll even devote his monologue to a more serious issue like substance abuse and its temptations for a young person in Hollywood.

He's probably not everybody's cup of tea, but he enjoys his job too much for me not to get caught up in it as well.

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

Dwight Schrute

Argh! There's nothing to watch on TV! How much uninspired, low-budget, derivative reality programing can they shove down our throats this summer? May as well go for a walk outside, I say.

A few weeks and the new fall season will come back around, so I suppose that's something to look forward to. The Office is one of those shows that's really popular because of the really well fleshed-out, endearing characters.

Dwight Schrute is one of those characters. I love his fierce loyalty and his dedication to winning. He doesn't always win mind you, but he keeps fighting anyway. Dwight is actually the type of guy I think I'd like to have around. He's got some pretty rare survival skills that could really come in handy some day.

And I actually kinda like beets.

Who Watches The Watchmen?

Rorschach, Doctor Manhattan, Nite Owl, Silk Spectre, Ozymandias, The Comedian

I read Watchmen long ago, so my memory isn't completely clear, but the story and the atmosphere of it was really really unique. I thought the message of it was an interesting one as well, though I'll have to go pull it out and have another read.

Rorschach is my favorite of the characters, he's got a tough attitude and he's visually cool too. That's something that's really great about the comic, the characters are all interesting and unique and each has a cool look to them.

I'm totally pumped for the movie. Some people aren't that happy with what they've seen at this point, and I have no idea if it's gonna be good myself, but from what I have seen, I'm really looking forward to it!

Continue WATCHING for a wallpaper very soon!

The Mighty Hercules!

The Mighty Hercules

Remember this show? Many people probably haven't ever seen it, but I used to watch it all the time. I don't know if it was really the greatest cartoon ever, but I still liked it.

Maybe I was into it because it was pretty much the "superhero" twist on the Hercules myth. He had a power ring, a logo emblazoned belt, reccuring arch-villains (that Mask of Vulcan guy was was hilarious!) and a young centaur sidekick Newton.
Herc's galpal Helena wasn't just a damsel in distress, she was downright useless.

Often Hercules would even call down his crazy wild horse Pegasus to aid him. He had to tame that stupid horse every time.

Ah, the memories.

What's new August 13, 2008

Hey all, thanks for all the comments and suggestions! I just wanted to let you make mention of a few things.

First, Hook-handed Aquaman has been added today to the
DC Comics Explosion post.

Second, Adam who runs the very cool
DisneyEtc has given Springfield Punx a mention there and I wanted to give a shout out to him, go check out his blog for some great retro art, movie talk, etc!

And last but not least, a talented artist named James has pointed us to a couple of his Simpsons-inspired works based on Dragonball Z and Galaxy Express 999. Visit his links and you can see bigger versions there.

Wondering about Lynda Carter

Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter)

What's Lynda Carter up to these days? I wasn't born early enough to watch the Wonder Woman TV show when it aired, but I've seen enough of it to know what a great job she did in a difficult role. I mean, that costume doesn't seem like an easy one to pull off (and no, I didn't intend that to be taken literally, guys).

Anyway, I did this version of Wondy as a token of big respect to Lynda for her hard work making Wonder Woman a household name.

P.S. You know Wondy's "Lasso of Truth"? Well did you know this? From wikipedia - Dr. William Moulton Marston, (Wonder Woman's creator) is credited as the creator of the systolic blood-pressure test used in an attempt to detect deception, which became one component of the modern polygraph.

Cool, huh?

Thunder...Thunder...THUNDERCATS!

Lion-O

To be honest, my memory of Thundercats is a getting bit fuzzy, but I remember it as one of my favorite cartoons in the 80's. They had cool weapons and vehicles and that made the toys just plain cool.

The logo and the look of the characters is a great visual as well, so it's no surprise you can buy Thundercats shirts even today.

I also hear things about a new Thundercats CGI movie or something, so (like everything from the 80's) expect to see Lion-O and the gang again.

And quickly on another matter...
I've added a little note down there on the bottom of the page to try and avoid any problems before they start. You can give it a quick read and leave any feedback here if you so choose. Thanks!

The Night Shift

Stephen Colbert, David Letterman, Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien

These are some of the guys who snicker you off to sleep at night. A few of my thoughts here -

Colbert must have a very high IQ. He's not only very knowledgeable, but quick on his feet. I often think the average news program is so padded with fluff and lazy reporting that you'd be better off watching something like The Colbert Report for your news. At least it advertises itself as a comedy program.

Anyway, I'm probably a Letterman guy myself, I just like how odd the man is. I actually like playing "Will It Float?" and I always stay up and watch the show when they they hurl stuff off of the roof :) I'm still trying to figure out how to do that little pencil trick of Dave's.

Jay Leno is cool too, his "Headlines" segment on Mondays is always a sure bet for laughs. His "Jaywalking" segments are pretty much a service to America, showing that a good number of Americans are clueless about politics, the Bible, and the world around them.

I like Conan O'Brien because he can pretty much walk his way into any situation and wrestle it into something funny. His little dances and silly voices are icing on the cake. It's too bad Jay is leaving The Tonight Show, but Conan should fill the spot as well as anyone could.

Anyway, it's time for me to say g'night!

UPDATE -
Craig Ferguson is here
