Marvel Mirage

A young artist named Gerardo recently sent me a neat drawing of his (The American Turtle) based on a story that he and a friend are working on.

They call it Marvel Mirage; a mash-up of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Marvel characters.

He gave me descriptions of the other characters (Shellowine, The Iron Turtle, and Shellpool) and asked me if I would do up some SP style images for them. I don't always do this, but I remembered the fun I had at 14 with this kind of thing, so I was more than happy to play around with it myself and throw something together.

Anyway, I thought they had a really fun idea going and I wanted to just share it with you, here they are below (Click image to enlarge)

Oh, and if you ever get the chance to help out and encourage a young artist - or any young person for that matter - please do, you won't regret it.

Thanks!

  1. I've been a fan of your work ever since I stumbled across your Dark Knight - Joker. I thought you couldn't get any better but taking time out of your day to do this for a young lad is great! I'm not an artist but I hope other kids like this one are inspired by you too.

  2. I feel like Raph should have been Deadpool, both their colors are red.

  3. @Bailey - That's really nice of you to say, thanks!

@Anon - I know what you mean, that is true. If you go by their personalities though, the way Gerardo has them really makes a lot of sense.

  5. I have to say, Raphael as Deadpool would have just looked like Deadpool. The Michaelangelo/orange scheme works better for me because it instantly makes him stand out, and even though he's fully covered, I know it's Michaelangelo.

  10. Hey how about Usagi Yojimbo as Silver Samurai? I know Usagi isn't Mirage proper but he has crossed over with TMNT before.

  12. Hey there Dean, this may come as a shock to you, but I am the kid who showed you that image and created Marvel Mirage all those years ago. I'm now 19 years old and have long wanted to apologies for how I basically took advantage of your kindness because as I remember it you did this as a one time kind of thing and I would just hit you up a few weeks or month later basically begging you to draw another Marvel Mirage image even though you were simply trying to encourage my art skills. I've since realized my true calling was writing and currently a aspiring writer with my own creator owned ideas and have a comic series in development. I would love to try and reconnect though I respect if you rather not since this probably seems so out of nowhere. Anyway thank you for being so patient with me since I know you did a few more images such as the Casey Jones/Punisher mash up and the Keno/Bucky mash up.

    1. Hi Gerardo! Very glad to hear you're still being creative, regardless of what avenue that creativity takes. Anyway, yeah, feel free to send me an email and say hello. Thanks for touching base in any case!
