...Does Whatever A Spider Can

Spider-man, Green Goblin, Electro, Vulture, Lizard, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Rhino, Scorpion, Mysterio

Well, today's mega-post is inspired by the awesome Spider-man cartoon of the 60's. As a kid, I adored watching Spidey's adventures as I wolfed down my lunch every day. I'd run outside humming the theme song and shoot my sister with my imaginary web-shooters.

I can even remember going to the outdoor pool downtown, hanging onto the ledge in the water where I would practice sticking to the wall.

I don't know who your favorite villain was in the cartoon, but I always liked how they did Mysterio. He was just so... mysterious. He had a creepy voice and he just looked strangely cool.

Now that I look at it, Spidey's enemies sure seem to like green and purple, don't they?

I seem to recall reading in some book about the early days of comics that, due to the poor color reproduction on newsprint, the artists did the heroes in the easily-reproduced primary colors (red, blue, yellow) and saved the harder-to-keep-consistent secondary colors (green, purple, orange) for the villains...

  4. Well, the Hulk was supposed to be grey, another popular villain colour, but someone at the printer read the colorer's guide improperly and made him green...

It's been too long for me to remember whether i read the first Hulk story when it was new (yes, i am very old), but i think the mess-up hapened with the second issue.

(I do remember a Fantastic Four issue with the Human Torch reading the first issue, though...)

  7. Great post, my friend! I've always loved that cartoon, since I watched it when I was a boy in the 80's -I'm from Spain and that Spidey show was released in the 80's-.
About the characters' colours issue, I wrote a post about it so, if you want to, you can see it here:

  9. I find the 60's version (of Spiderman and the others) to be kind of hard to watch because of the limited movement in the animation. I like the 80's Amazing Spiderman and his Friends because it reminds me of my childhood, but my favorite is the 90's Spiderman: The Animated Series, that one was just so well done.

Frankly, these pics could fit any of the Spiderman series, so it doesn't really matter too much which one you prefer. :)
