Doctor Who Week: Day 1

The Doctor (Matt Smith)

Over the last few months, I've had a tremendous time enjoying Doctor Who Series 5. I have to confess, I only have a fuzzy memory of the classic Who from the public TV broadcasts we had, and I've only seen a handful of the Eccleston/Tennant episodes.

A friend got me onto this series with Matt Smith, and right from that fabulous series opener I've been hooked. I love Matt Smith in the Eleventh Doctor role as well, he's eccentric and brilliant, but also playful and childlike. I'd be really pleased to see the Eleventh Doctor stick around for a while if possible. At the same time, I've enjoyed it so much that I'd like to look into the previous incarnations some more I think.

Stand-out episodes for me from this series are the already-mentioned series opener, the Vincent Van Gogh episode (which I found poignant and sort of beautiful) and the just finished Pandorica/Big Bang finale episodes.

Well, all this week we'll concentrate on series 5, so see ya tomorrow!

  1. "What are you wearing?"
"I wear Fezes now. Fezes are cool."

NICE job, man. I never would have thought of this (and if I had, i would always wonder how you would do that prominent jaw). You did brilliant.

  3. Hell yes!
As an avid Doctor Who fan I appreciate any recognition of the show's (and the actors playing the Doctor) brilliancy. And as an American fan, I appreciate anyone even mentioning Doctor Who. 'Tis quite sad how ignorant this country is of such a hilarious, long-running show.

  6. Just remember in your drawings of the Doctor's universe and it's occupants:
"Any image of an Angel becomes an Angel itself."

    P.S. Don't Blink

  11. Very nice, great job on the doctor. I know Doctor Who week is over, but is there any chance for the classic Doctors or at least the 4th doctor?

  12. Aaron, I suspect this will not be the only Doctor Who week I do, so that is possible.

  13. These are quite, quite brilliant. Quite how you've managed to capture the actors' faces is beyond me - even the proper Simpsons artist doesn't seem to get such good likenesses! Bloody marvellous.

  14. I hope you do some of the old doctors and companions.

  16. I think I know where you are coming from Anon, but keep in mind that when 'real life' people appear on the Simpsons, the trademark "Simpsons features" usually aren't so pronounced. This is usually for the sake of likeness. But hey, you can have your opinion.

  18. Amazing work! One thing, though - when the Doctor wears a blue bowtie and braces, he changes his shirt to a blue/grey coloured one to match. If we're being technical, lol. But it'd complete the look of the blue outfit if it had the blue shirt. Excellent work either way.

  19. Yes, right you are Anon. I've made the change, thank you.

  30. Though I have stopped watching the simpsons years ago (Due to really awful scripts from the lack of effort from the writers) I would LOVE to see Matt Smith make an appearence.

  31. Ah it was your 11th Doctor Wallpaper that lead me to your door. The Fezzed Doctor is a fave!

  32. of course the doctor has featured in the Simpsons, more than once actually, but Matt Groening must have been a classic doctor fan as it was the 4th incarnation of the doctor played by Tom Baker that they represented. Your drawing is very cool thou.
